You can get your fix from all the hunting and fishing channels on DIRECTV alabama and the like, but if you still need a little more than we got you covered – we have another list of even more places in the State of Alabama where the fish are almost as plentiful as the hairs on your head (well, maybe not that much).

1. Gainesville Lake – Crappie
If you are looking for one of the best spots to fish for crappie than you need to head west – West Alabama, that is.

2. Pickwick Lake – Crappie
The crappie fisheries have done wonders for the lake and one need only troll 30 or 40 feet behind the boat to get instant results.

3. Millers Ferry – Crappie
A little more cunning is required to catch the crappie in this area and experts say that targeting the prespawn fish is key to a good catch.

4. Lake Eufaula – Largemouth Bass
During the month of April, this place is literally teeming with fish presenting an incredible opportunity for fishermen of all ages.

5. Lake Guntersville – Largemouth Bass
In the 1980s, the lake suffered an infestation of the fast-spreading Hydrilla weed, but the bass continued to adapt and grow, making this another perfect spot for fishing.

Everyone wants to land the big one. Though it may not be possible to do this on every fishing trip you take, there are ways to increase your chances. Take the time to consider your bait and location options before heading out. These two factors can make a big difference.

Live bait works well when trying to catch big fish. Though it may sound simple, bigger bait will typically entice bigger fish. A tiny worm or shad may not even be noticed by a large fish. Think bigger if you wish to catch bigger. Also consider bait that will provide some type of movement, or illusion of movement. This can be accomplished with both live bait as well as lures.

Where you fish makes a difference. You cannot catch the biggest fish unless you go to where they live. Ask friends, or read about which locations regularly produce big catches. If you can, find out which specific areas are hot beds for the large fish. By going directly to their source, you immediately increase your chances. Be sure that your line test strength is high enough. The last thing you want after hooking up to a monster sized fish is to have the line break.

Red fish are a saltwater species in the drum family. An adult can weight from 30 to 90 pounds, so your tackle must be able to handle a fish that big. Any good heavy weight rod will do the trick. A good spinning or casting reel will also be acceptable for catching the red fish. A baitcasting reel will also work well if you know how to use them. The line is also just as important as the rod and reel you choose. 15 to 20 pound test line will insure that you can pull in that big fish. A larger hook is also needed to keep the fish from breaking your hook. Get more information here: http://www.mademan.com/mm/types-fishing-reels.html Red fish will bite on artificial plastic grubs and some top water baits, but their favorite baits are live shrimp, small crabs, and minnows. Dead bait can also be used such as pieces of dead fish. Using a bottom fishing rig is also a good way to catch red fish, as well as top water fishing and surf casting from beaches. Having the correct equipment for catching red fish and knowing how you equipment works will go a long way to catching that trophy red fish and having a great day on the water.

If you are new to the world of fishing, welcome. You will surely find that this is one of the most rewarding and fun sports that exist today. Getting started will require that you purchase some basic equipment. However, the start up cost is usually quite minimal. Choosing the best equipment will increase your enjoyment of this sport.

Obviously, you will need a fishing rod. There are different rods for fresh, fly and salt water fishing. Choose based on where you will primarily be fishing. There are also different line strengths. These should be chosen based on the type of fish that you wish to catch. For example, if you will be fishing for bream, the line test should not be high. If you will be fishing for tarpon, your test strength will need to be very high.

Bait and lures should also be chosen based on what you aim to catch. Live bait works well on a large variety of fish. There are literally thousands of lures on the market today. Take the time to research which work best for the type of fishing you plan to do. By taking the time to do just a bit of research, you will be able to choose the best equipment, and will greatly increase your chance of success.
