Everyone wants to land the big one. Though it may not be possible to do this on every fishing trip you take, there are ways to increase your chances. Take the time to consider your bait and location options before heading out. These two factors can make a big difference.
Live bait works well when trying to catch big fish. Though it may sound simple, bigger bait will typically entice bigger fish. A tiny worm or shad may not even be noticed by a large fish. Think bigger if you wish to catch bigger. Also consider bait that will provide some type of movement, or illusion of movement. This can be accomplished with both live bait as well as lures.
Where you fish makes a difference. You cannot catch the biggest fish unless you go to where they live. Ask friends, or read about which locations regularly produce big catches. If you can, find out which specific areas are hot beds for the large fish. By going directly to their source, you immediately increase your chances. Be sure that your line test strength is high enough. The last thing you want after hooking up to a monster sized fish is to have the line break.
